Aaron Feaver

Director - Joint Center for Deployment and Research in Earth Abundant Materials at Washington State University

After two successful clean tech startups in the battery materials space - EnerG2 and Group14 - I am now working in the public research sector in the State of Washington. As Director of The Joint Center for Deployment and Research in Earth Abundant Materials (JCDREAM) administered through WSU, I aim to bring together researchers at WSU, UW, PNNL, and other Washington State institutions to focus on the following vision: Washington State will become a leader in solving the problems of inordinate environmental and human rights impact stemming from 1st world consumption of critical or rare-earth materials. We aim to be an example of exceptional industry, academic, and government collaboration and provide a template for global deployment of solutions. Prior to JCDREAM my career focus was on the synthesis and processing of high performance carbon materials, where I lead the move to engineered materials solutions for clean technology. I co-founded EnerG2 and Group14 and have written and spoken extensively on nanotechnology topics. I led EnerG2's technology development from inception at the labs of the University of Washington in 2003 to a venture-backed business, and eventually to our acquisition by BASF - the worlds largest chemical company. As a founder of Group14 which develops silicon-carbon composite materials for lithium ion anode materials, I continue to be intimately involved as a close advisor. Prior to my focus on nanotechnology, I was a project manager and engineer within Boeing's Design for Environment/Manufacturing initiative and Liaison Engineering. I received my BS from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, BA from North Central College, and a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Washington. Specialties: Energy Storage, Nanomaterials, Nanotechnology Commercialization, Ultracapacitors, Batteries, Carbon Materials
