I teach machines to understand short phrases. I work with the search and recommendations team at Wayfair, which serves the role of the store clerk a customer talks with to find their perfect home decor and furniture. My team's goal is to program intent-detection into our virtual store clerk experience and understand the customer's intent when they search (what they are in the mood for, what they might want to purchase later, etc.) A few topics I explore on a daily basis are NLU, translation, physics and how machines represent things only humans understand (the Dall-E model is mind blowing!). I'm rarely capable of sitting idle, I love to read scifi/fantasy, I can speak a few languages, and I'm currently learning to play the Indian traditional classical flute
