Dick Huey managed and signed multiple music recording artists to the Beggars Group in the mid-90's (June, Stella). He subsequently built the new media department at the Beggars Group from 1997-2002 as Global Head of Digital, prior to establishing his digital media consultancy Toolshed in 2001 in New York's Hudson Valley, on a 150-year old working farm. At Toolshed, he currently consults a variety of technology, entertainment, EdTech, and FinTech startups; Jaxsta, Techstars accelerator winner Paperchain, Merge Records, HijackRadio, and NYU Professor Scott Galloway's new EdTech startup Section4 are current clients. He founded Toolshed in 2001, providing digital business services for labels, digital and social marketing for labels and artists, corporate communication and vision articulation, and music acquisition licensing for tech companies. Dick has held long-term digital business consultant roles at Spotify, Soundexchange, 8Tracks, Red Mountain ski resort, and Red Bull Music Radio, as well as with dozens of market-leading independent record labels (Touch and Go, Saddle Creek, PIAS, Righteous Babe), key tech and media companies, and on behalf of hundreds of critically acclaimed music artists (Arcade Fire, Spoon, Anais Mitchell, Aimee Mann, Martin Sexton), all under the Toolshed banner. Huey started his career as a performer and music manager, and signed acts to to the Beggars Group and Glitterhouse Records. He is passionate about artist rights, and held an Executive Director role at Washington-based artist thinktank the Future of Music Coalition.
