Jeronimo Bezerra

IT Associate Director at Florida International University

MSc in Mechatronics and BS in Computer Science by the Federal University of Bahia - UFBA/Brazil, with Cisco CCIP, Linux LPIC-1 and Juniper JNCIA certifications, I am currently working as an IT Assistant Director at the Florida International University, in the Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment - CIARA. Among my duties, I am the Chief Network Engineer of the AMPATH and AmLight Engineering Teams (www.ampath.net and www.amlight.net). In these teams, I am responsible for the Layer 2 and the Layer 3 operations, such as BGP, OSPF, Network Resilience, Software Defined Network, VLAN, Multicast, IPv6, etc. Before working for FIU, I worked at the UFBA's data center for more than 9 years, being involved with the UFBA's IT operation and, RNP's Point of Presence and Internet Exchange Point of Bahia's network operation. Always involved in IT and networking activities, at UFBA I had the opportunity to install huge Linux deployments of e-mail and web clusters, using OCFS2, Postfix, Apache, and tunnel servers. All of this running over i386, RISC and/or S/390 mainframe platforms. I also had the opportunity of working on the UFBA's network, with its more than 400 switches and routers, miles of own fiber, Cisco firewalls, and WAN links. All of this using Cisco, Juniper, Extreme, and other vendors. At UFBA, my last position was Chief Technology Officer, being responsible for all data center's operations, as networking, server, storage and cloud, cooling, power and security. At the same time, I was involved with some other Internet Service Providers of Bahia and Alagoas, working with IPv6 and BGP. My Master's Thesis is related to IP Mobility in scenarios of routing that splits location from identification of the IP protocol, using the Locator/ID Separation Protocol, or LISP (www.lisp4.net). Thanks to the Internet Society - ISOC, I could attend the 79th and 81th IETF Meetings, in Beijing and Quebec, as part of some IETF Working Groups.
