Upon graduation from Dartmouth College and The Duke University School of Medicine, I completed residency training in psychiatry at The Duke University Medical Center, and I came home to Texas in 1976, where I have practiced ever since. Dana and I have three successful children who are the highlight of my curriculum vitae. I have practiced psychiatry in major medical centers (Houston, Dallas) as well as smaller communities (Conroe, San Marcos, College Station) over the years. During the 1980's I founded Sandstone Systems, Inc., and built a psychiatric hospital; and in the 1990's I moved to Dallas, where I have worked in private practice, community psychiatry, academic psychiatry, and the VA Healthcare System. Over the years my expertise has been in the areas of direct patient care (adults and children), medical administration, forensics, addiction treatment, and medical education. I have had the good fortune to be elected for membership in Best Doctors, a national organization, and have been honored with teaching awards at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. I have served as an examiner for The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; as a surveyor for The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations; and as Professor of Psychiatry & Director of Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Training, at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
