Communications and Programs Associate at American Economic Liberties Project
I’ve always wanted to understand political strategies for stimulating economic development in our most vulnerable communities. As a student at California State University of Los Angeles, I fell in love with financial literacy and advocacy. I started with looking for resources to fund my own basic student needs and eventually I found myself working to break financial barriers for others who also struggled to afford access to education. My passion led me to campaign and serve as the President of the Associated Students Incorporated where I represented 28,000 student voices and managed a 1.4 million dollar budget for student success programming. I was proud to build a campus community around civic engagement, service and the empowerment of student leaders. It only took a few advocacy trips to California State Capitol and Capitol Hill for me to know that the next step would be working in the office of a local representative or legislator that had influence over what impacted my local community. What started as learning the legislative process and observing policy development on the Hill has turned into a wonderful opportunity to explore public policy and social justice. Now, I let the work guide me.
