Measurement - The measurement skills I have attained vary from measuring small domestic dwellings to large complex commercial projects, with experience from start to finish of many projects such as measuring groundwork to internal finishes both off plan and onsite. Teamwork - Teamwork is a vital skill within the construction industry. I have developed this skill through group assignments during my time at University. In my industrial job it was evident that all members of staff rely upon each other to complete projects successfully. My role as a Junior Quantity Surveyor varied within each project and once my workload was complete I was drafted into other teams which improved my flexibility skills. Financial Management - Financial management was a key part of the Quantity Surveying degree. During the four year course I was given many tasks incorporating this and asked to complete within a rigid timescale. When working within the construction industry, especially in this economic climate, it is imperative to keep within budget and achieve value for money. This can be done by carrying out monthly valuations to produce payment details, firstly for the client and secondly for subcontractors working on each project. Quantity Surveying Dissertation - My Dissertation was an exploration on client satisfaction with the expanding role of the quantity surveyor. Through data research I had to gather, analyse and interpret data which enabled me to conclude that the role of the quantity surveyor has become more diverse. This diversity has forced the surveyor into expanding their expertise into other areas of the construction industry due to environmental changes, economic climates and building regulations.
