Ujjwal Gupta is Founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) of BenchPrep. In his day-to-day activities, he leads product, operations and growth related initiatives. Since 2010, Ujjwal has helped built BenchPrep, a test prep management system that is the first and only platform to sync across your computer, phone, and tablet with instructor led virtual or in-person classes. As co-founder, Ujjwal helped secure over $8 million in funding from some of the biggest venture capital funds in the US, including NEA, Lightbank, and Revolution. Ujjwal has launched partnerships with top education publishers like McGraw-Hill and Pearson. Prior to founding BenchPrep, Ujjwal started several companies across several industries, including nanotechnology, rural technology, and events management. Ujjwal obtained a PhD in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University and a BS/MS from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. During his time in academia, he was published 15 times. “I realized that after getting my PhD that in nanotechnology,” Ujjwal says, “I would have to wait 20 years for my work to become commercially viable. Ultimately, I found my calling in the fast-paced world of technology and entrepreneurship.” Ujjwal believes that the future of learning is blended, and that we should be more and more open to educational innovation in and outside of the classroom. “The reading, watching, speaking, and listening portions of learning will always be important, but the medium of information consumption must evolve to be device-agnostic, adaptive, and fun,” Ujjwal says. “Technology is powerful and has such a profound ability to help students learn: we must take full advantage of that.” When Ujjwal is not devoting his time to BenchPrep, he spends it on traveling, playing fantasy football and watching the NBA.
