With a turnover of Rs 8,3 billion in 2020, Alteo is a leading regional player in the sugar, energy and property sectors in Mauritius, Kenya and Tanzania.
Listed on the Official Market of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM), Alteo is the largest sugar producer in Mauritius and has a strong in Africa, with two additional sugar factories in Kenya and Tanzania. In 2019-20, the Group produced 284,600 tonnes of raw sugar, 106,500 tonnes of refined white sugar and 47,400 tonnes of premium sugars.
In addition to its sugar activities, Alteo owns and operates three power plants (two in Mauritius, one in Tanzania) that exported 177 GWh to the national grids in 2019-20. One of the Group’s core objectives is to increase its activities in the energy sector and to become an important player in renewable energy in Mauritius and Africa.
Over the last decade, Alteo has been diversifying into the property sector through the development of Anahita, a luxury residential and golf estate, developed under the Integrated Resort Scheme. Lately, the Group has been focusing on an ambitious strategic master planning exercise, with the ultimate aim of capitalising on the value of its substantial land asset base, through the development of a variety of innovative real estate projects in the east of Mauritius.
